History
1894
Newcastle Post Office awarded, named for a town by the same name in Texas by landowner Dr. C.P. Kelly. First Postmaster - Eulalie V. Kelly (Section 11, Township 9 North, Range 4 West - in present day Newcastle City Limits).
1905
Second sight for Newcastle Post Office established (Section 24, Township 9 North, Range 4 West - in present day Newcastle City Limits).
1905
First Baptist Church was established.
1917
World War I delayed construction of the Ozark Trail Bridge.
1920
Third sight for Newcastle Post Office established (Section 15, Township 9 North, Range 4 West - in present day Newcastle City Limits).
1922
Newcastle Consolidated School was established, combining Pleasant Hill, Clopton and Highland.
1922
Ozark Trail Bridge began construction.
1925
Ozark Trail Bridge was completed now known as South Canadian River Bridge 1st Federal Funded Project in Oklahoma.
1927
Highway 62 was established connecting Newcastle to Oklahoma City.
1938
First electric gas pumps were installed.
1942
First Newcastle resident looses life in World War II - Marine Pete Chrisman.
1945
Tornado strikes Newcastle destroying some of the school and business district.
1946
New school opens in Newcastle.
1949
Lindsay Ridge School consolidated into Newcastle Consolidated School.
1961
The City of Blanchard is asked to annex Newcastle to prevent annexation by Oklahoma City.
1961
Petition was submitted to McClain County Commissioners for Incorporation of "South Newcastle".
1962
Incorporation was approved by the McClain County Commissioner - hence "South Newcastle".
1963
City of Blanchard de-annexed parts of Newcastle to be annexed back by "South Newcastle"
1964
Balance of land was annexed by "South Newcastle"
1965
Petition was submitted to and accepted by the McClain County Commissioners for a name change to "Newcastle".
1965
First Town Marshall was established.
1967
City of Newcastle Fire Department is established - volunteers only.
1973
The first bank in Newcastle was established - Bank of Newcastle.
1973
The first newspaper was established - Newcastle Pacer (still in business today).
1978
First Police Chief hired.
1987
Leesa Cornett, Newcastle alumni, was crowned Miss Oklahoma.
1989
Newcastle Resident, Leesa Cornett was named Miss Oklahoma.
1992
Newcastle annexes land south of the South Canadian River, recently de-annexed by Oklahoma City.
1999
F5 Tornado (largest in recorded history at the time)hits Newcastle and surrounding communities.
2005
Exceeded the 2005 US Census estimate for population.
